Listening practice
News in Easy Finnish
Yle broadcasts the Finnish news in selkosuomi — simple Finnish, spoken slowly and clearly — every weekday. It is the closest free material there is to the pace of the YKI listening paper. This page follows Yle's feed and refreshes itself, so the newest bulletin is always at the top.

Bulletins are produced and hosted by Yle (Yleisradio Oy) and play on Yle Areena. YKIReady only links to them and is not affiliated with Yle. Older bulletins expire from Yle Areena after about two months.
How to use the news for YKI listening
Fifteen minutes a day with one bulletin builds the exact skill the listening paper tests: catching the point of an unfamiliar recording the first time you hear it.
Basic (YKI 1–2)
- 1.Watch once without stopping. Just catch the topics: weather, work, prices, travel.
- 2.Watch again with the Finnish subtitles on and write down five words you keep hearing.
- 3.Say one sentence out loud about each story: “Uutisessa kerrottiin…”.
Intermediate (YKI 3–4)
- 1.Watch once with subtitles off and note the main point of each story in Finnish.
- 2.Replay the two hardest stories and write a three-sentence summary of each.
- 3.Speak for 60 seconds about the story that interests you and give your own opinion.
Advanced (YKI 5–6)
- 1.Watch once and take notes as if you had to report the bulletin to a colleague.
- 2.Rewrite one story as a short formal message (150 words), keeping the register neutral.
- 3.Argue for and against the decision or event described, two minutes out loud.
